Teaching Asana

Learn to teach safely, effectively and with confidence. The asana portion of our 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training program includes:

  • Detailed study of all yoga postures including modifications of poses and appropriate use of props
  • Physical and energetic benefits of postures
  • Hands on adjustments and enhancements
  • Learning to see and understand bodies in terms of proper alignment
  • Creating a class: learn the principles of sequencing and how to create a theme for your class
  • Verbalizing an asana: learn to give clear, simple instructions through choice of appropriate verbal cues and body language demonstrating asana: key points for teaching beginners
  • Teaching to special groups such as prenatal yoga, seniors, kids, etc.
  • Student teacher relationship
  • Ethics of a yoga teacher

Multiple opportunities to practice teaching will be given. At Semperviva we create a supportive, nurturing community of teachers to help you apply what you have learned right away. You will receive immediate feedback from your teachers to help you refine your teaching skills and feel at ease in front of a class. We are here to support you every step of the way.

Meditation

Learn to teach a variety of meditation techniques to quiet and focus the mind:

Daily meditation and journaling is a requirement of this 200 hour yoga course. Meditation teaches us to stop identifying with the body, the mind, and its ceaseless thoughts. When this happens, then there is yoga, which is identification with the true Self, Samadhi, happiness, bliss.

Pranayama

Prana is the life force or vital energy. Pranayama is the way of building or directing this vital energy:

  • Learn to teach powerful breath (pranayama) techniques such as ujayi, kapalabhati, nadi sodhana and kumbhaka
  • Understand the bandhas or energy locks that direct prana (vital life force)
Anatomy

Western anatomy and physiology will be studied, including the circulatory system, lymphatic system, respiratory system, digestive system, endocrine system, nervous system, musculo-skeletal system, the spine, immune system, and genito-urinary system:

  • Understand the physical effects of yoga on the body
  • Learn how to avoid injury in key areas, and how to work with basic injuries
Yogic Anatomy

Learn the energetic effects of yoga on the body:

  • Prana, what it is and techniques that direct prana
  • Kundalini energy and it’s infinite potential
  • The chakra system
  • The vayus
  • Nadis
Yogic History and Philosophy

Study Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and how these teachings provide a very real model that can be applied to daily life:

  • Study of the Bhagavad Gita
  • Yoga’s journey to the West and the most influential yogis of our time

FAQ

Are payment plans available?
Yes! Finances should never be the limiting factor when embarking on a journey that you are passionate about. Course fees are due in full 30 days before the start of a training course. Please contact us at teachertraining@semperviva.com to help us create a payment plan that suits your individual needs.
Am I good enough/flexible enough/too old/too young?
Yoga Teacher Training is for anyone who has experienced the profound benefits yoga can bring to one’s life and wants to experience more of these benefits physically, philosophically, and emotionally. It is for all ages, all levels and all abilities.
Do I have to pre-register for class?
No. All regular classes at Semperviva Yoga are open for drop in. Please arrive 15 minutes before class so that we can familiarize you with our studios. View Class Schedule Semperviva Yoga Workshops (including the Absolute Beginner Yoga Workshop) require pre-registration to reserve your spot. You can register online, in person, at any of our studio locations, or by phone. Register For Workshop  
Can I take more than one class in a day?
It is best to develop the consistency and commitment of doing one class daily. If you do take more than one class, we will count it towards your 40 class total but please consider that developing a daily practice is far more beneficial.
Do I need to be interested in teaching?
This program will qualify you to be an inspiring, safe and effective teacher. However, we also have many students who enroll solely for their own personal development. Tools learned during this program will enable you to gain greater fulfillment from your yoga practice and your life.
Do I need to be fit or flexible to do yoga?
The short answer is no. Our new students all enter at different levels of fitness, flexibility or strength. We encourage you to start where you are and go at your own pace. It will simply be a matter of weeks until you are feeling more confident in class.  This is your space to rediscover everything you are and everything you can be.

How do I get started?
Our Intro Offer at ONLY $39 for 30 days for UNLIMITED yoga is the BEST way  to get started. You can purchase this offer online or in-studio. Once you purchase the offer simply present your receipt at the front desk when you arrive for you first class and you will receive a 30 day pass. You can swipe this pass at our front desk when you go to any other classes. This 30 day unlimited pass allows you to try unlimited different styles, teachers and locations. All yoga classes are definitely not the same! Taking just one class is not enough to understand how much yoga has to offer you.
