Restorative Yoga Level 2 – Therapeutic Principles with Tianne Allan

This training deepens our understanding of the principles of restorative yoga and introduces the application of restorative yoga as a powerful therapeutic process to stimulate and assist the body’s natural healing processes.

You will learn how to identify imbalance, dis-ease and dis-harmony. You will learn the mechanisms of the restorative therapeutic healing process; restorative yoga poses, breath work and meditations. You will learn how to safely support this transformational process both as a teacher and as a practitioner.

Restorative Yoga Level 2 – Therapeutic Principles is for both yoga teachers and anyone wanting to incorporate therapeutic restorative practices into their work or personal lives. This course is suitable for yoga teachers, body workers, physical therapists and practitioners in primary medical care service.
In order to participate in this course, students must have completed Restorative Yoga Foundation – Module 1.

Restorative II training will cover the following topics:

  • Restorative Yoga for Pain Care
  • Restorative Yoga for Anxiety and Depression
  • Restorative Yoga for Hormonal Balance
  • Restorative Yoga for Injury Care and Mobility Issues

The program includes:

  • Neurological, psychological, physical effects of chronic stress, illness and injury
  • Modern perspective of the mind-body state as relates to chronic stress, illness and injury
  • Yogic perspective of the mind-body state as relates to chronic stress, illness and injury
  • Principles and techniques of restorative yoga; poses, pranayama, meditation, visualization
  • Kosha model of assessment for understanding unique mind-body experience of the individual client
  • Principles and techniques of Yoga Nidra and its therapeutic elements
  • Adapting restorative yoga poses for special populations
  • Restorative yoga chair poses and sequencing
  • Adapt restorative yoga poses to various healing environments; hospital, home care
  • Restorative yoga for special populations: pain care, anxiety, depression, injury, mobility limitation
  • Design and teach an individualized restorative yoga program
  • Design and teach a restorative yoga class

Restorative Yoga for Pain Care

Millions of people live with chronic pain. Arthritis and back pain are two of the most common forms, but others include everything from migraines to cancer.

Chronic pain impacts all areas of a person’s life; mind, body and spirit. Chronic pain can interfere with and even disconnect the sufferer from their life. It can lead to secondary symptoms such as anxiety and depression. Chronic pain can be complex and debilitating.

Restorative yoga offers an integrated, whole body approach to managing and relieving chronic pain. We combine the understanding of modern science, with traditional yogic philosophy and restorative yoga techniques to offer a unique, powerful and accessible healing process.

Restorative Yoga for Anxiety and Depression

One in five adult Canadians will suffer a mental disorder in their lives, of which anxiety and depression are the most common, (Canadian Mental Health Association). The World Health Organization has predicted that by 2030, more people will be affected by depression than any other health problem.

The causes of depression and anxiety are complicated. While there may be a biochemical cause, there are also psychological, emotional, environmental and social, factors that influence depression and anxiety. Restorative yoga is an integrated whole body approach that addresses each of these aspects. It combines the understanding of modern science, with traditional yogic philosophy and restorative yoga techniques to restore and improve general wellbeing.

Restorative Yoga for Hormonal Balance

Hormones are chemical messengers in the body that affect many of the body’s processes including metabolism, reproduction and sexual function. When hormones are not in balance symptoms can include fatigue, weight gain, insomnia, low sex drive, headaches, joint pain, anxiety, and more. If hormone imbalance is left untreated it can result in serious medical conditions.

  • The koshas: understand the traditional yogic perspective of hormone imbalance
  • Learn restorative yoga techniques for hormone imbalance; restorative yoga poses, breath work and meditations
  • Apply the Kosha model of assessment to understand the unique individual experience of hormone imbalance.
  • Design and teach an individualized restorative yoga program for a person with hormone imbalance.
  • Develop and deliver a restorative yoga class for people with hormone imbalance.

Restorative Yoga for Injury Care & Mobility Issues

The gentle nature of restorative yoga makes it accessible and inviting for people with injuries and mobility restrictions. Wherever the limitation or pain, we can fully support the body to completely rest, while stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system’s innate, powerful, healing processes.

Learn how to comprehensively support an injury or mobility restriction by further understanding the principles of bilateral symmetry and multi-phase awareness. Explore pranayama practices to powerfully move the healing breath deeper into the body, especially areas with limited mobility.

Restorative yoga offers an integrated, natural, whole body approach to injury and mobility restriction. We combine the understanding of modern science, with traditional yogic philosophy and restorative yoga techniques to support a unique, powerful and accessible holistic healing process.

For 200 hour Yoga Alliance certified teachers the credits of the course can be applied towards the 500 hour certification, and is eligible for 45 hours CEU with Yoga Alliance. Continuing Education Units are required to maintain your status as a Registered Yoga Teacher.

Upon completion of this course and full payment, students will receive a Certificate of Completion documenting participation and attendance. In order to be a certified yoga teacher, students must also have completed a 200 hour Yoga Alliance Yoga Teacher Training.

Tianne came to yoga after a long career as a high performance athlete. She brought her passion and commitment as a dedicated athlete to her yoga practice, coming to the mat daily for power yoga practices. Her love of yoga grew and Tianne began teaching. One night, while out for an evening stroll with her dog, Tianne was hit by a car. Her yoga practice changed dramatically. Instead of power yoga flows, it became a practice of healing for body, mind and spirit, of finding peace within the trauma. The experience has been transformative.

Tianne now shares what she has learnt on her path of healing through teaching restorative yoga. The practice of restorative yoga, like all yoga styles, aims to cultivate emotional calm, mental clarity and inner peace, all within a healthy, vital body. The difference with restorative Yoga is that we slow it all down to deeply connect with our experience. Within this deep connection we learn how to breathe, move and quiet the mind to stimulate healing; restore, rebuild and rejuvenate the body. In gratitude to the healing practice and to the compassionate guidance of her teachers, Tianne is honoured to share her knowledge and experience through classes, workshops and teacher training.

Tianne is a registered yoga therapist, (International Association of Yoga Therapists), registered yoga teacher and teacher trainer, (RYT500, E-RYT200, Yoga Alliance).

* Any yoga therapy components of Tianne’s teaching are based on her IAYT credential, not derived from her status as an E-RYT500 with Yoga Alliance Registry.
