Free Members Workshop – Intro to Meditation with Ben Geldreich

Apr 14, 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

In this hour and a half workshop we will dive a little deeper into the practice of meditation.  We will answer some common questions on meditation, such as what are we doing? And why we are doing it?  We will also look at meditation techniques, ways to approach the physical side of sitting in stillness, and discuss the many benefits of a meditation practice.

Benefits of meditation include:

  • Reduced stress and anxiety
  • Better sleep and deeper rest
  • More patience
  • Improved focus and productivity
  • Increased compassion
  • Heightened body awareness

As part of this workshop, we will also spend some time looking at the breath and helpful breathing techniques. These techniques can be done anywhere and at any time, helping to support meditation an easy and effective daily habit.

My hope is that you can walk away with a better understanding of what meditation is, how meditation may help you, and where you can start to incorporate this practice into your life.

If you’re new or seasoned to meditation, this workshop will be accessible to you. Comfortable clothes are recommended but not a necessity. I suggest bringing a hooded sweater or toque as sitting in stillness for longer periods of time can lower the body temperature.

Ben Geldreich

Ben has been immersed in the Yoga world since 2013. It has taken him to many places, not only within himself, but also around the world. Currently residing in beautiful Vancouver, B.C. , he is thrilled to be teaching at Semperviva and to be a member of the teacher training faculty! Being able to share the gift of Yoga with others feels like what Joseph Campbell would refer to as “the return home”.

An explorer at heart, Ben encourages students to embrace the unknown. It takes courage to be curious and connect with ourselves and our community. In his classes, Ben likes to guide students through a meditative, dynamic and lighthearted practice, giving the students opportunities to deepen their connection to their body, mind and spirit.

He believes: If you can breathe, you can practice yoga. If you can close your eyes, smile and breathe, then you are already practicing yoga. If you can do all three of these and laugh at yourself, then you are teaching yoga!
