Ignite Mentorship 2019: Yoga for Every Body: Creating Accessible, Inclusive Yoga Classes with Julia Doty

Jan 18, 2019 - Jan 27, 2019

Whether you took Yoga Teacher Training for your own personal development or to teach, it’s time to take your practice and teaching further! The 2019 Ignite Mentorship Program offers you the opportunity to continue expanding your skills with members of our Teacher Training Faculty.

Increase your knowledge, confidence and skill in four sessions aimed at the foundational elements of teaching: Accessibility, Alignment, Sequencing and Presence. Take one module based on your area of interest or combine the four modules for a dynamic year of development!

This program is designed for recent graduates of a 200 hour program, teachers in their first year or two of teaching or yoga teachers who have been away from teaching for a while and want to get back in to it.

At Semperviva, we believe in the power of the community. Gain new tools in a supportive group environment and put what you learn into practice right away!

Modules count towards Continuing Education credits with Yoga Alliance or Semperviva’s 300 Hour program.

Yoga for Every Body: Creating Accessible, Inclusive Yoga Classes

Yoga can have a significant impact on a student’s health, well-being and happiness. As a teacher, it is our hope to serve a student’s growth, to see their bodies and hearts ease free of tension and pain, and their lives fill with more joy. Understanding how all aspects of your teaching can affect a student’s experience is important! In this module, we will explore practical tools and techniques to support diverse experience levels, physical abilities and other challenges.  We will also look at how your language, voice and non-verbal communication can transform the quality of your teaching and be of deeper service to students. Create a container of safety and accessibility that can offer people a more impactful level of transformation!

We will explore:

  • establishing trust + why it matters
  • language, respect + inclusivity
  • building confidence teaching any adult age or ability level, including specific techniques for supporting beginner-level students
  • modifications, props + assists: how to serve the individual safely and effectively
  • boundaries: yours and the student’s
  • teaching mixed level classes vs a progressive class series
  • personal ethics + responsibility

Please note: this module is applicable to teachers of all styles, but primarily focuses on supporting students in hatha-context classes.
