200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program

Study the postures of Hatha yoga in conjunction with the technology of Kundalini yoga for the most powerful of yoga experiences.

Our study program enables you to dive deeply into the study and practice of yoga while still being able to maintain your commitments to your work, family, schooling and other activities.

Topics covered include teaching asana, meditation, pranayama, anatomy, yogic anatomy, history and philosophy, yogic diet and lifestyle, and ayurveda.

Tuition fees include unlimited classes at Semperviva Yoga for the duration of your course, a comprehensive 300 page manual, the Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita, and Dr Ray Longs anatomy textbook.

Most exciting is your ability to participate in workshops from visiting yogis during the course of your study at no additional cost to you.

Asana

The foundation of this course is the practice and study of Asana. Yoga is experiential and a daily personal practice is required. Poses will be studied extensively including:

  • correct physical alignment
  • general physical and energetic benefits of postures
  • modifications
  • hands on adjustments
  • learning to see and understand bodies

Teaching Asana

A good teacher is one that is ALWAYS learning

  • learn to teach safely and effectively
  • setting an intention for the class; following a theme, workout, instructional
  • how to structure a class, principles of sequencing,flow
  • verbalizing an asana; choice of words, body language, touch
  • demonstrating an asana
  • modifications
  • manual adjustments
  • key points for teaching beginners
  • teaching to special groups ex pre-natal yoga, kids
  • student-teacher relationship; ethics of a yoga teacher

The entire purpose of asana is to establish a steady, comfortable seat (=asana) that is used to study pranayama and meditation.

Meditation

Meditation is the practice of watching your mind think. Through practice one realizes that you are not your mind. You stop identifying with the body, the mind, and its ceaseless thoughts. When this happens, then there is yoga, which is identification with the Self, samadhi, happiness, bliss.

  • simple meditation techniques, with and without mantra, that focus and quiet the mind

Pranayama

Prana is the life force or vital energy. Pranayama is a way of building and directing this vital energy

  • theory and practice of pranayama.
  • basic breath (pranayama) techniques such as ujayi, kapalabhati, nadi sodhana and kumbhaka
  • bandhas or energy locks that direct prana (vital life force)
