Semperviva Yoga was founded by Gloria Latham and her husband Scott Latham with this purpose in mind, to make yoga accessible to Every Body. They both came to the practice of yoga in their adult years just as most of their students do, and could truly appreciate the feeling of intimidation they experienced when starting their yoga practice. Their intent was to create a welcoming community of the most knowledgeable, inspiring teachers to support each and everyone on their path to physical, mental and emotional well being. They sincerely believe that Every Body deserves to experience the grace, serenity and mind body health that comes through the practice of yoga.
Teacher Training with Gloria
Gloria is an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (ERYT 500) at the 500 hour level with Yoga Alliance. She is the Director of Yoga Teacher Training at Semperviva Yoga College.
My goal in Yoga Teacher Training is to assist students to develop into safe, effective and most importantly inspiring teachers through the understanding of yoga as a complete path; a way of being in the world that reaches far beyond what one can achieve on the yoga mat.
This course provides students with volumes of technical information but what is paramount is that the program is highly experiential. If yoga has not truly touched your heart, you will not be able to inspire others regardless of how much “information” you have learned. As a dear teacher and friend Mark Whitwell says, “learning can only be achieved through heart to heart transmission.” I encourage my students to learn their yoga from the inside out. That is, to truly feel it in their bodies, their hearts, and their souls. It is only in this way that they can spark the light in others.
My personal studies have spanned all styles of yoga with some of the world’s finest teachers including Gurmukh, Mark Whitwell, Rolf Gates, Shiva Rea, Dharma Mittra, Sarah Powers, and Annie Carpenter. I believe that yoga should be accessible to people of all ages and all abilities, and our teachers are trained to meet people where they are.
Gloria’s favourite place to practice yoga is on her island home of Kythira, Greece. It is her dream to continue to take students on yoga retreats to this magical island so they can experience the power of yoga, combined with the rugged passionate, raw energy of the Greek Islands for a truly transformative experience.
