Dear Semperviva friends, and lovers of yoga,

Submit your success story and enter to win!

I invite you to share your Yoga Success Stories with us. Share your personal stories and help others begin their transformative journey to better health, and inner calm. How has yoga touched your life?

Think about the following questions when you're writing your story. You can make your story as long or as short as you like but the more inspirational the better!

  • Has yoga helped you achieve your fitness goals?
  • Is your life feeling a little more balanced?
  • Are your relationships benefiting from the inner calm that yoga inspires?
  • Are life's challenges a little less daunting?

Every story is a success story no matter how big or how small. What matters is that yoga has somehow touched your life, and that you choose to inspire others to practice. Just as yoga is not a competition, this too is not a competition. All story submittals will be entered in our prize draw.

Enter your story in our Success Stories submittals and be eligible to win a Yoga Retreat weekend on Galiano for two as first prize (valued at $890.00), or one of two 3-month unlimited passes as second and third prizes (valued at $270.00 each). Help others experience the joy yoga brings to life.

"I survived Breast Cancer with the help of Yoga!"

The Patty Bush Success Story

Patty Bush

I survived Breast Cancer with the help of Yoga.

I had been a nurse for 27 years when I was given the diagnosis of Breast Cancer. At that time I was very active; training for an Iron Man triathlon. Despite my many years as a nurse and caring for a variety of cancer patients, including my sister-in-law who lost her battle with cancer, the news of my diagnosis was devastating.

Thankfully, I had a great support structure around me that has helped me get through my five surgeries including a complete mastectomy. One of the most significant gestures of love I received was a 3 month pass to Semperviva Yoga. Without doubt, yoga has helped me reconstruct my life and has allowed me to come to terms with cancer.

My first class at Semperviva was Kundalini held by Gloria, the class was hard but I was made to feel safe and protected and very welcome. I had done a few classes of Hatha yoga before but I had not realized what yoga can do for you emotionally; you can let it all go in a yoga class, I have found myself at times balling my eyes out – the only reaction I received was support.

I remember seeing my GP several months after starting yoga and she commented on how much better I was looking, so much so that she joined Semperviva herself. During my treatment I used meditation, acupuncture, and yoga to keep me from taking anti-depressants. With the help of Gloria and the community of friends that I have at Semperviva, I have come to terms with my new body.

I would recommend anyone with stress in their life to embrace yoga. I have been clear of cancer now for 18 months, cancer is now out of my life but I will always have yoga in my life.
