Finding Your Centre: Core Strengthening and Stabilization with Catherine Munro and Alistair Logan

Our centre is our relationship to the core. What is the core? Abdominal strength is not in isolation to the rest of the body, it relates to the vertical axis of the body.

In this workshop we will explore the essential body connections that help to access the core. Why is all this important? For the same reason we hate Navasana (boat pose), so we can learn to work with and access our deeper muscles more intelligently so we don't suffer the pain of the superficial muscles doing everything.

  • Date: Saturday May 19th
  • Time: 1:30pm-3:30pm
  • Where: City Centre
  • Cost: $35.00 + GST
  • Contact: 604.739.2009, info@semperviva.com

Featured Teacher: Jesse Enright

What do you love about teaching yoga?
"I love seeing people develop an intimate, intelligent and compassionate relationship with their bodies. I also love taking people who feel trapped in their bodies, by restriction or injury and helping them become strong and pain-free."

What attracted you to yoga?
"I was always an exercise junkie. Early on I realized that working with the body could be a gateway to a better state emotionally, psycholgically and perhaps spiritually. Unlike other physical activities, hatha yoga practice had the evolution of the self as its primary objective."

How long have you been practicing yoga?
"I've been practicing some form of hatha yoga, whether it be Sivananda, Iyengar, Ashtanga, or Vijnana, daily for more than twelve years."

What teacher has had the biggest impact on your practice?
"There are quite a few. Ron Reid and Diane Bruni of Downward Dog in Toronto have been my greatest mentors. But I would also credit Eddie Modestini and Gioia Irwin as huge inspirations."

How would you describe your classes?
"Informative, challenging and hopefully fun. My goal is to teach the asanas properly and precisely while making it enjoyable and not taking the process too seriously."

Before you became a yoga teacher, what did you do?
"I worked in a series of vegetarian restaurants in Australia and Toronto."

Describe your ideal class (as a teacher).
"A room full of students who are curious and open-minded."

Aside from yoga, what other hobbies or interests do you have?
"I sing in a crazy rock-band called Scatterheart. It's all about balance!"
