1:00pm to 3:00pm: Yoga is Peace: Understanding & Deep Practice

Peace is our natural state and it is freely given. Yet pain is the unavoidable motive for people worldwide as they approach yoga in hopes of restoring balance to their life. In this workshop, Mark Whitwell helps us develop a new, nurturing relationship to our life, and even to our pain, as he guides us to understand that both yoga and our natural state is peace. Through our practice, we begin to feel nurtured and peaceful, even in the midst of difficulties. Whitwell also briefly discusses the Heart of Yoga project, which aims to bring yoga education worldwide, so that everyone may know peace. Asana will be integrated into discussion.

3:15pm to 5:15pm: Advanced Practice: Breath, Asana and Bandha

This workshop introduces breath and bandha as the central feature of asana. Learn how to apply asana and bandha efficiently to produce a powerful practice that is right for you. “Yoga is the means for ordinary folk to absorb the nurturing and healing force of Life.” Asana is hatha yoga; “hatha” means “strength receiving”, which has profound implication to our Life, health and experience. How do we make sure our asana is actually hatha yoga? (Practice and discussion). Suitable for all levels including complete beginners!

12:30pm to 2:30pm: The Principles of Successful Yoga and Life

"Adapt Yoga to the individual, not the individual to the yoga. There is a perfect yoga for every person. If you can breath you can do yoga" – Krishnamacharya.

In this workshop learn how to adapt yoga to individual needs and health issues, both yours and, if you are a teacher, your students. (Practice and discussion) All levels including complete beginners!

2:45pm-4:45pm: Asana, Pranayama, Meditation and Life: A Seamless Process

Advanced asana and pranayama class open to everyone. (Mark will always adapt advanced practices to individual needs.) Asana supports pranayama, pranayama supports meditation, meditation supports Life. Mark will clarify the principles of pranayama and bandha in your practice. Suitable for all levels includes complete beginners.

About Mark Whitwell

Mark Whitwell studied for more than twenty years in the home of Krishnamacharya, "the teacher of our teachers" and his son TKV Desikachar.

Mark's teachings clarify the profound passion and relevance of ancient wisdom to contemporary life. The idea that spiritual or physical gymnastics are needed only denies the reality of our own wonder. Yoga actually is the means by which ordinary men and women can easily absorb the nurturing force of life freely available to every one. He edited and contributed to Desikachar's book, The Heart of Yoga, and his own book is Yoga of Heart: The Healing Power of Intimate Connection. He is the founder of The Heart of Yoga Foundation, a non-profit group committed to yoga education around the world. Mark continues to teach yoga throughout the US, Europe, Asia and New Zealand.
