Learning the Language of Assists during Yoga Class
Join Carolyn in an afternoon of movement, discussion and partner work during this introduction to hands-on adjustments.
This workshop is geared towards yoga instructors, or anyone who has completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training program and is committed to learning appropriate, safe and effective ways to adjust and enhance a student’s experience in a pose.
Come prepared to discuss the ethics of why, when and how to approach a student in a hands-on manner. The benefits of verbal cueing versus a physical assist will also be explored as both have their own advantages. Much of the workshop will be learning and practicing these specific techniques to apply in your classes.
As teachers, it is our responsibility to move through the classroom with stability and centeredness. Sharing these virtues through touch and enhancements for yoga asana is a practice-come and grow with us!
About Carolyn Anne Budgell
This strange journey of breath, movement and laughter found Carolyn in 1999 as a ski bum in Whistler. She initially sought a greater balance for snowboarding, skateboarding and trail running and is constantly humbled by the shifts and changes of this practice while crawling closer to home.
Carolyn loves to: feel breath, play the upside-down game and get into a deep quad stretch. She travels around the world to learn from masters in the traditions of Anusara, Forrest and Jivamukti yoga. She loves listening to and sharing soulful melodies. She appreciates the simplicity of detaching from the stories, the thoughts and the lessons, with a quiet stroll and some rich espresso.
In Carolyn’s class you may: sweat, cry, laugh, and have a good breathe. Her intention as a guide is to offer little insights towards breath and love. The rest is up to you to experiment, heal and remember that everything is okay. How does one connect to their spontaneous true self? It’s actually quite simple. In the words of BKS Iyengar, “Finding grace is not a back breaking business… Practice practice practice and all is coming.”
Many thanks to her teachers: Ana Forrest, Christine Price Clark, Clara Roberts-Oss (mentor), BKS Iyengar and Caroline Myss.
