Hatha
Open to all levels. Strengthen, stretch, tone and relax. Whether you are trying to get in shape, cope with tension from the office or relieve the tightness in your body from sports, Hatha yoga can benefit you. Hatha yoga is the classical form of yoga postures and breathing that revitalizes the body physically and mentally. It is an uplifting practice that increases muscle tone, improves flexibility and concentration, detoxifies the vital organs and allows you to experience a state of deep relaxation. The level of the class will depend on the teacher and the needs of the students.
You can always make classes easier or more challenging for yourself by following the teachers’ cues for variations and modifications of the poses.
Sherine (sub)
Sherine was born in Switzerland and moved in Summer 2009 to Vancouver. For her, Yoga is the answer we all have been looking and waiting for, it's a tool for life. Through the practice you're able to approach everything on your life's journey. Behind the floating clouds in your mind the deep blue sky is waiting for you. Yoga helps us to find clarity and to come home to our true nature of being. When you're able to harness your mind, through stillness in the body and calmness in the breath, you're able to attain your full potential.

Sherine is also a Prenatal and Yin teacher, she integrates her knowledge from all her training to guide her students. In her classes there is something for everyone, from the beginner to the advanced. The emphasis is always on the breath, the present moment and to practice with awareness. Be ready to transform, to connect to the amazing power within, to laugh, dance and play. Come, shine and feel the magic happening.

Dan L.
Howdy! I did my 200 hour Hatha certification in the summer of 2004, and starting teaching 2 days after completion. In terms of what I offer in my classes, it really depends on the group that shows up, as I work with the energy of the room. Generally, but not always, I tend to infuse repetitive flow into a blend of standing and balancing poses, moving towards longer holds as the class progresses. I do my best to keep the flow fresh, changing, and charged with love, and some days working more on a Yin level, more chill, more stillness. My classes are all levels, leaning towards intermediate, although when I sub for other teachers, I do my best to honor the kind of class they would teach. That said, feel free to share concerns and I hope to see you in class:)

Tony (sub)
Hmmm.... Yoga. A pretty good doorway to the present moment. A place where we can fall into the timeless rhythm of our breath and develop a connection with our bodies. I'm a firm believer in yoga being about how asana is performed instead of a collection of postures and poses. It's not necessarily touching your toes in your seated forward fold but your awareness of your breath, body and mind during your forward fold. My class is an alignment based practice that will gives you the space to connect with yourself. Namaste.

Beverly (sub)
Beverly became a Yoga teacher in her 40’s after starting a practice over 15 years ago. Her experiences over the years brought her to a place where she felt she needed to take her practice deeper and share it’s infinite possibilities with others looking for a first time introduction or those looking to add to an already ingrained asana. Though teacher is the title, she feels guide is a more appropriate term as her belief is that the teacher is there to guide each student to the places and experiences that speak most, to the individual journey, allowing the students to connect to their own internal teacher so that their practice more personally fulfills their needs. Whether your desire is to follow a physical, mental or spiritual practice Beverly welcomes you to each class as the unique individual you are. Certified as a Hatha and Yin instructor she welcomes young and old, new and experienced to explore body and soul. Maybe you will find more open joints, maybe a more open heart and maybe you will just have a laugh. Whatever your goal, come ready to explore and breathe. Beverly’s own health experiences with heart and breath have given her a deeper understanding of the healing effects of yoga. Her wish is to pass on the knowledge shared over the centuries with others. The North American life style keeps us in such a constant state of unrest that taking time to connect internally and get to know ourselves and our body’s has become a difficult art to master. Give yourself the gift of being there for yourself so that you can be there for others in your life.

Carolyn Anne
This strange journey of breath, movement and laughter captured Carolyn (BA, ERYT) in 1999 as a ski bum in Whistler. She began teaching in 2008. Yoga not only provides Carolyn with agility for snowboarding, skateboarding and trail running, she is constantly humbled by the shifts in everyday life while crawling closer to a connectedness with others. Carolyn loves to: feel breath, play the upside-down game and get into a deep quad stretch. She travels around the world to learn from masters in the traditions of Forrest and Jivamukti yoga. She appreciates the simplicity of detaching from the stories, the thoughts and the lessons, with a quiet stroll and some rich espresso. In Carolyn's class you may: sweat, cry, laugh, sway your booty and have a good breathe. Her intention as a guide is to offer little insights towards breath and love. The rest is up to you to experiment, heal and remember that everything is okay. “Practice practice practice and all is coming." Many thanks to her teachers: Ana Forrest, Christine Price Clark, Clara Roberts-Oss (mentor), BKS Iyengar and Caroline Myss.

Emily
In 2006, Emily was inspired by her history of competitive figure skating & dance, to explore a new form of movement: yoga. Her journey began in LA, where she studied at various studios, including Bikrams Yoga College of India, and Brian Kest's Power Yoga. Since then, yoga has taken her to India to study Anusara Yoga, with Christina Sell, to Thailand, and to Vancouver to complete the three Anusara Immersions, and 200hr teacher training, with Chris Chavez. Emily draws from her many varied experiences, taking the best from each to inspire and guide others in their journey! With a heart felt and authentic voice, Emily reminds her students that yoga lets you feel again, allowing for a deeper connection to this life. Be ready to peel back the layers, be ready to receive euphoric moments, and be ready to experience culture's past!

Colin
Colin teaches from a place of love, gratitude and compassion. He reminds us that living our 'now-life' is about being present in this moment and that dwelling in the past or speculating on the future doesn't serve anyone. With first hand experience, Colin knows that healing from pain, suffering and 'dis-ease', is unequivocally possible through yoga. Classes cater to all levels and are joyously active, empowering and filled with conscious breath.

Angie I.

Yin
Yin Yoga is a powerful practice which targets tendons, ligaments and fascia within the body. Each posture is held for long periods of time to encourage the slow and safe opening of connective tissues, leaving the yogi with an overall feeling of lightness, spaciousness and peace. The perfect antidote to stress and a great counter balance to more active style yoga.
Bernie
Bernie Clark (ERYT 500) yoga practice encompasses the hard, yang-styles, such as Ashtanga and Power Yoga, and the softer, yin-styles, as exemplified in Yin Yoga. His meditation experience goes back to the early 80's when he first began to explore the practice of Zen meditation. He has a bachelor degree in Science and combines his intense interest in yoga with an understanding of the scientific approach to investigating the nature of things. His ongoing studies have taken him deeply inside mythology, comparative religions and psychology. All of these avenues of exploration have clarified his understanding of the ancient Eastern practices of yoga and meditation. His teaching, workshops and books have helped many students broaden their own understanding of health, life and the source of true joy.

Meditation
We will begin by learning how to sit. Sounds simple: it is simple, butunfortunately we make it difficult. We will discover the Path of Mindfulness and learn some of the basic tools to help build increasing awareness into our daily life. Many of the obstacles that we face in developing a mindful life will be discussed; these have been noticed by meditators for thousands of years. We will discover that our struggle with maintaining awareness is not unique. We will also be pointed in the direction of insight, also known in the Buddhist tradition as vipassana, a broad knowing or recognition of what is really going on in our life.Bernie Clark has studied many different styles of Yogaover the last decade and with many excellent masters:David Swenson and Tim Miller have guided his Ashtangajourney, Shiva Rea and Erich Schiffmann have inspired hisintermediate practice, while Sarah Powers and Paul Grilleyhave provided balance through their knowledge of YinYoga. Since the 70’s his meditative path has been guided bymany including the likes of Sarah and his Thai Yoga Therapyteacher Saul David Raye. He has been greatly infl uencedby the teachings of Joko Beck and Thich Nhat Hanh. Bernie’syoga classes bear the marks of all his Yoga teachersand the immense Zen traditions.Cost: All sessions are by donation, which in the Buddhist tradition is called dana ($5-10is suggested but pay what you feel is right).
