Jazz
During her last year as a varsity athlete, Jazz discovered yoga as an elective course she figured would be “easy” credit. Instead, she stumbled on a practice that offered a perfect balance of physical, spiritual and emotional expression…not to mention it kicked her A**! After years of non-existent stretching routines, yoga was the hardest and most frustrating thing she had ever done. She fell instantly in love. She ventured to do her 200 Hour Vinyasa training in Costa Rica with Frog Lotus Yoga, learning with howler monkeys, sloths and softball-size spiders playing in the trees above. She continues to adventure and expand her teaching in all directions, training in lineages of Jivamukti, Kundalini, 5 Element Flow and Rasa Vinyasa with Shivea Rea. She is learning and loving every day since she has become a teacher. Her classes are filled with creative flows, light hearted humor and constant movement with the breath. Above all she strives to create a space where students can feel at ease, able to laugh at themselves and allow themselves to play. Her class gently touches on yogic philosophy, occasional mantra work, and integrates an elemental connection. She believes this allows for us to go deeper into the practice, and roots us back down to earth. Through the practice of yoga, we begin to let go of who we think we need to be, and realize who we really are. She gives thanks to all of her teachers of the past, present and future. Much love!

Clara (sub)
Movement has always been sacred to me.

I have danced my whole life, whether it’s been grooving to a good song, taking dance classes or flowing through a vinyasa, my body can’t get enough. Through movement, I feel as though I’m communing with the Divine.

I took my first vinyasa class in 2000 at Jivamukti Yoga Center. I had a feeling of arriving home. We moved through postures seamlessly with an emphasis of breath-body connection. The class gave me what the dance world didn’t, an emphasis on the internal journey.

I received my 200 hour Vinyasa certification with Lauren Hanna at Sonic Yoga NYC in 2003. I met Shiva Rea shortly thereafter and again, felt as though I had come home. Shiva had created a language for the kind of movement I’ve been doing my whole life. She, too, understood the idea of fluidity. Our bodies yearn to move like water and when we do, our bodies hum with excitement. I’ve completed my 300 hour Prana Flow Certfication with Shiva.

I thank all my teachers for sharing their passion of this practice with me: David Life for opening my heart, Stacey Brass for her minute cues that have changed me life, Uma for opening my voice, Dana Flynn for throwing out all the rules and inspiring me to do the same, Constantine Darling for showing me another way, and Paul Ortega for reminding me we are ALL the cosmic dancer.

I invite you to be playful in your practice, remembering that lightness is found in spirit!

Tony
Hmmm.... Yoga. A pretty good doorway to the present moment. A place where we can fall into the timeless rhythm of our breath and develop a connection with our bodies. I'm a firm believer in yoga being about how asana is performed instead of a collection of postures and poses. It's not necessarily touching your toes in your seated forward fold but your awareness of your breath, body and mind during your forward fold. My class is an alignment based practice that will gives you the space to connect with yourself. Namaste.

Carolyn Anne
This strange journey of breath, movement and laughter captured Carolyn (BA, ERYT) in 1999 as a ski bum in Whistler. She began teaching in 2008. Yoga not only provides Carolyn with agility for snowboarding, skateboarding and trail running, she is constantly humbled by the shifts in everyday life while crawling closer to a connectedness with others. Carolyn loves to: feel breath, play the upside-down game and get into a deep quad stretch. She travels around the world to learn from masters in the traditions of Forrest and Jivamukti yoga. She appreciates the simplicity of detaching from the stories, the thoughts and the lessons, with a quiet stroll and some rich espresso. In Carolyn's class you may: sweat, cry, laugh, sway your booty and have a good breathe. Her intention as a guide is to offer little insights towards breath and love. The rest is up to you to experiment, heal and remember that everything is okay. “Practice practice practice and all is coming." Many thanks to her teachers: Ana Forrest, Christine Price Clark, Clara Roberts-Oss (mentor), BKS Iyengar and Caroline Myss.

Ara

I stumbled upon yoga with a 20 minute video, popping it into the VCR late at night after I came home from work. I felt amazing – body, mind and spirit. I finally found perspective from my hectic day. How could a short video do this? I needed to know and experience this more, but I didn’t know how I could possibly add this onto my other fitness activities and my long work days. One day, I decided to focus on the one physical activity that I really loved, yoga, and see if I could maintain my physical fitness. I could always go back. The strength and ease I found in my body translated to my mind and my spirit. I realized that health is all three together.

Through my yoga practice, I find perspective and balance – at home, work, alone, with others, and within every moment. The answers to life’s challenges, on and off the mat, are within me. All I have to do is listen. When I listen, then act, I find integrity.

I bring this philosophy into my classes, blending flowing and held poses, stillness and movement. I encourage all students to find their own yoga, and incorporate it into their daily life.

Bernie
Bernie Clark (ERYT 500) yoga practice encompasses the hard, yang-styles, such as Ashtanga and Power Yoga, and the softer, yin-styles, as exemplified in Yin Yoga. His meditation experience goes back to the early 80's when he first began to explore the practice of Zen meditation. He has a bachelor degree in Science and combines his intense interest in yoga with an understanding of the scientific approach to investigating the nature of things. His ongoing studies have taken him deeply inside mythology, comparative religions and psychology. All of these avenues of exploration have clarified his understanding of the ancient Eastern practices of yoga and meditation. His teaching, workshops and books have helped many students broaden their own understanding of health, life and the source of true joy.

Yin
Yin Yoga is a powerful practice which targets tendons, ligaments and fascia within the body. Each posture is held for long periods of time to encourage the slow and safe opening of connective tissues, leaving the yogi with an overall feeling of lightness, spaciousness and peace. The perfect antidote to stress and a great counter balance to more active style yoga.
