Meet Our Teacher, Reno

Check Reno out this Saturday at Noon outside our Kits Beach studio for a complimentary outdoor yoga class. Bring your own mat and practice to the sweet sounds of Reggae music!

What classes do you teach for Semperviva?
I teach Vinyasa Krama Yoga as taught by the Father of modern yoga T.Krishnamacharya.

Why do you love teaching Vinyasa?
Vinyasa Yoga has the power to change your life for the good. It can bring health to the body and the ability to quiet the mind. If we can learn to control the breath, we can in turn control the mind. Yoga is all about controlling the mind so that life is no longer happening to you, but you are creating life with your every thought, word, and deed.

I truly believe yoga has the power to wake us up and change the world because it is a complete system, not just a physical practice, or not just a mental practice, or not just a spiritual practice. It covers all the bases. It is my goal that every student will be able to practice all the aspects of yoga anytime, anywhere, for the rest of their lives.

What are you passionate about outside of yoga that strikes a balance for you in your life?
I am a DJ and producer who loves reggae and dub music. I play all styles of music from breaks and drum and bass to hip hop and indie stuff, but I am a Rastaman at heart. I give thanks for Jah Music as it is a huge part of my spiritual practice and will continue to share this music with the world in as many ways I can.
What music is inspiring your practice at the moment?

  • Alcyon Massive
  • Midnite
  • Lutan Fyah
  • Million Stylez
  • King Tubby
  • Alborosie
  • Dezarie
  • Damian Marley
  • Pretty Lights
  • Grammatik
  • and, always, Bob Marley

What do you hope will be your personal legacy?
I pray that all people will learn to be fearless and to love fully through my offerings. My mission, whether it is through music, philosophy, or Vinyasa, is to inspire others to live the life they love and love the life they live.

I will leave you with the words from Alcyon Massive’s song “As Above So Below”,
“Can you imagine just what will happen when we all wake up to the fact we are One?”
This to me is why I teach and practice yoga. Because I believe we can all Wake Up and Live!
